Legendary natural historian and beloved television host Sir David Attenborough is celebrating his 100th birthday today (May 8). To mark the milestone and honour the occasion, Warner Bros. Discovery is airing a special programming line-up on Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.

Headlining the tribute, Life in Colours will premiere on both the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet on May 8. Narrated by Attenborough, the special explores his lifelong fascination with the natural world and its breathtaking diversity. The film unveils how animals harness colour in astonishing ways, for survival, communication, and courtship, revealing behaviours that exist beyond the limits of the human eye.

Also returning is Parenthood, a special re-release narrated by Attenborough. The film traces the universal journey of raising young in the wild, capturing raw moments of instinct, fierce protection, and hard-won survival across species. From tentative first steps to daring first hunts, it lays bare the deeply emotional and often perilous realities of parenthood in the animal kingdom.

Attenborough, considered one of the most popular natural historians, introduced natural history storytelling to generations of audiences worldwide. “In India, the Discovery Channel introduced generations of audiences to Sir David Attenborough’s work, shaping an enduring connection with natural history storytelling. Over the decades, the Discovery Channel, along with the BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, have come together to produce some of the world’s most iconic natural history titles, including Planet Earth and Life, fronted by Sir David Attenborough, series that have helped define and elevate the genre globally,” read a press release from Warner Bros. Discovery.

Speaking about the initiative, Sai Abishek, Head of Factual Entertainment, Lifestyle & Kids, South Asia, Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “Sir David Attenborough’s storytelling has shaped the way generations connect with nature and understand the world around them. For decades, he has brought audiences closer to the wonders of our planet with a voice that is both deeply personal and universally impactful. As he turns 100, we are honoured to celebrate a living legend who continues to inspire curiosity and love for the natural world. His work has held a special place for audiences in India through Animal Planet & Discovery Channel, building a deep and lasting affinity for natural history storytelling over the years. Bringing this celebration to India makes it especially meaningful for us.”
