New Delhi: Three members of a gang have been arrested for fleeing with Rs 14 lakh from a godown in Anand Vihar. According to police, armed men from the ‘Rashid gang’ stormed into a pan masala dealer’s godown in Rishabh Vihar Society and escaped with the cash. A case was registered at the Anand Vihar police station. “On Sept 10, acting on a tip-off, two suspects—Amir Suhail and Deepak Sharma, residents of Village Panchi in Baghpat, UP—were nabbed. Their interrogation led to the arrest of another gang member, Momin, from Khajuri Chowk,” said DCP (Crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. Police recovered two country-made pistols, one sophisticated Beretta pistol and 17 live cartridges from their possession. The car used in the crime was also seized. Police have registered a separate case under the Arms Act. During interrogation, Sharma revealed that he had learned about the large cash holdings at the godown nine months earlier. He informed his gang leader, Rashid, who waited until Aug to execute the plan. “Rashid instructed his associate Suhail to arrange a vehicle, while others were tasked with procuring firearms. On Aug 31, the men assembled in Ghaziabad before proceeding to Anand Vihar. After fleeing with the cash, they regrouped at Sharma’s room in Baghpat, where the money was divided,” added DCP Yadav. Police also stated that the gang had planned another robbery in Aligarh targeting hawala money worth Rs 90 lakh, but they were arrested before they could carry it out.
