Pune: Shivajinagar police have detained three men, all residents of Senapati Bapat road, for stealing iron lids of the drainage chambers from the Shimla Office chowk on Ganeshkhind road at around 10am on Saturday.Police constable Sheshrao Bhalerao, who was on duty in the chowk, noticed them stealing the lids and immediately stopped the autorickshaw in which they were travelling with the stolen lids.Senior inspector Girish Dighavkar of Shivajinagar police told TOI, “The missing lids could have caused serious accidents on the road. The alert constable not only detected the theft of the lids but also prevented the accident”.Dighavkar said, “We seized the heavy iron drainage lids, which were immediately handed over to the PMC officials. We have also seized the autorickshaw used by the trio to ferry the stolen lids.”“The trio wanted to sell the lids in scrap to earn some quick money,” Dighavkar said.
