‘Jaws’ at 50: Still has bite

Being a defense child meant watching movies well after the rest of the world had. Those were the days when films came to India long after their international release and then trickled down to far-flung Air Force stations many years later.

And so it was that one watched with thrill and terror as a shark destroyed the peace and calm of the beautiful seaside town of Amity. The re-release of the 4K restored version of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, was a chance to revisit a younger, starry-eyed version of oneself, remembering the nightmares of rows of razor-sharp, serrated teeth chomping down the ventilator in landlocked Bengaluru.
