Pune: The Chatushrungi police have registered a case against an event manager, a resident of Ahilyanagar, for allegedly cheating an IPS officer and his relatives of Rs 10 lakh by failing to execute decoration work for the officer’s wedding reception held on March 3 this year. The IPS officer’s sister (38), a resident of Aundh, lodged a complaint with the Chatushrungi police station on Monday. Attempts by TOI to contact the complainant on Tuesday evening were unsuccessful as her phone was switched off.The officer, currently posted in Uttar Pradesh, had got married in the city recently. For the reception, he had booked the Centre for Police Research (CPR) on Pashan Road, where senior state government officials, IPS officers and others were invited.According to the FIR, the officer and his family had hired the event manager, who had promised to decorate the stage and the entire venue. The contract for the decoration work was finalised at Rs 13 lakh, out of which the family paid Rs 10 lakh in advance.Senior inspector Uttam Bhajnawale of Chatushrungi police said, “The event manager was supposed to arrange flowers, lights and other decorative items. He had assured that the work would be completed a day before the reception.”“However, he failed to complete the decoration on time. Even as guests arrived and the reception was underway, the event manager continued working at the venue. His work continued even as the guests started leaving the venue. The IPS officer and his family were dissatisfied and felt cheated,” Bhajnawale said.He added, “The IPS officer eventually had to conclude the reception ceremony hurriedly and left the venue. We have registered the complaint and sent a notice to the event manager.”
