Cops recover Rs56L firm lost in email spoofing fraud | Pune News



Pune: A team of Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police recovered Rs 56 lakh after a Bhosari-based valve manufacturing firm lost it to an email spoofing fraud on April 6.The cybercrooks had hacked the email address of a China-based firm, which was a vendor for the firm that had been duped. The crooks created a new email address and shared some bank accounts stating that those were the new bank accounts of the China-based firm.They then requested Rs 56 lakh from the Bhosari firm into those new accounts. “The company officials transferred the amount. When they contacted the Chinese company for verification, they realised it was a fraud. They immediately approached the cyber police,” an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch said.Senior police inspector Ravikiran Nale of the Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police and his team found that the money was transferred to a bank account in the United States of America. They contacted the nodal officer from the receiver bank and alerted him about the fraudulent transaction.“Our team not only managed to freeze that amount but also got it transferred to the complainant’s bank account,” the officer said.
