The All Kerala Radio Festival organised by stations of Akashvani (All India Radio) is back after a gap of eight years. The nine-day festival, which will commence on May 10 with a preview, was put on hold during the pandemic and was not revived.
As has been the practice, actors from Malayalam cinema, serial and television industry are part of the productions this year as well. Among them is actor Mohanlal who is lending voice for two productions.
One is Daivathin Manamaaru Kandu, a play by Thiruvananthapuram station to be aired on May 11. Other notable voices in the production are MR Gopakumar, Bhagyalakshmi, Sandhya Rajendran, Nandu, and Sajan Soorya. Ruby Babu has directed the play written by Jayaraj Mithra.
Mohanlal will also be part of Kadamkathayile Virunnukaran, a production of Kochi station to be aired on May 17. Directed by MV Sasikumar and NS Jayamohan and written by Mohammed Roshan, it also has actors Mala Parvathi, Shivada, Muthumani and Aditi Ravi.
While Kozhikode station presents two plays — Madakkam (May 12) and Kaanka, Kadaline, Kanthurakkathe (May 16), Thiruvananthapuram station presents Jeevithotsavam on May 13. Thrissur station’s production is Sethulakshmi Kathirunna Rathotsavam (May 14) and of Kannur is Mounasakshi (May 15). A review of the plays will be aired on May 18.
This year’s drama festival coincides with the 90th anniversary celebrations of Akashvani.
All plays will be broadcast at 9.30pm, with a repeat on the next day at 1pm. Tune in to Akashavani stations or News on Air app to listen to the plays.
