Pune: The Hadapsar police on Wednesday registered a case of causing death by negligence against the chairman and committee members of a housing society in the same area after a four-and-a-half-year-old girl died on April 15, following the collapse of a slide on her in the society’s play area on April 7.The girl’s father (34), a software engineer, had lodged the complaint with the Hadapsar police in this case. An officer from the Hadapsar police said that according to the complainant, the society’s chairman and committee members placed the slide on an open plot a few months ago. Residents had repeatedly raised concerns about its unsafe condition, but the chairman and committee members had allegedly ignored these warnings. The complainant claimed that his daughter was playing on the premises after returning from pre-primary school around 12.30pm on April 7. “While playing, she went to the slide and started climbing. The slide shook and the girl fell down. The entire structure of the slide collapsed and fell on the girl. She suffered injuries to her face, neck and head,” the officer said. The girl’s mother then rushed her to a nearby hospital. She succumbed to injuries during treatment on April 15.“We have registered the case under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 3(5) [common intention] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Our investigations are on,” he said.
