Pune: The Talegaon MIDC police are searching for two men, including one from Virar in Palghar district and Mehsana in Gujarat, on the charge of duping an industry owner of Rs 85 lakh on the promise of helping him secure an investment of Rs 65 crore in his company. The fraud happened between Feb and Nov 2024.The owner (43), also from Mumbai, pursued the duo for his money for more than a year. When he did not get his money, he approached the Talegaon MIDC police and lodged a complaint on Saturday.An officer from the Talegaon MIDC police said that the complainant’s company is in logistics and trailer manufacturing. It is based in Maval taluka. In Feb 2024, an accused from Palghar approached the complainant. The accused, who runs a multiventure company, assured the complainant to invest Rs 15 crore in the latter’s company. He took Rs 15 lakh from the complainant under the pretext of completing different formalities required for the investment. “The accused approached the complainant again with a new investor from Gujarat and assured him to invest Rs 50 crore,” the officer said.He said that the duo again took Rs 69.60 lakh from the complainant, citing different reasons. Collectively, they took Rs 85 lakh from him. “When the duo did not invest the money, the complainant started asking them to return Rs 85 lakh they took from him. When he did not get his money, he lodged a complaint,” he said.
