Hi-tech CCTV cameras for surveillance in PCMC areas

Pune: The state govt’s high-powered committee, chaired by additional chief secretary (home), granted approval to the CCTV surveillance project for Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate initiated by police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey. The network will strengthen law and order, crime prevention, traffic regulation, and disaster management.The Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner was appointed as chairperson of the project implementation committee. He along with Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority commissioner, senior police officers, and officials from MIDC and other govt departments will be members of the committee.According to a statement, the surveillance project aims to create a centralised and integrated surveillance network across the commissionerate. It will integrate existing CCTV cameras installed under the Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Mission and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. It will also expand coverage to critical and previously uncovered locations.The press release stated that the project will provide focused surveillance coverage to key industrial zones such as Chakan MIDC, Talegaon MIDC, and Bhosari MIDC. It will also cover the IT and technology hub of Hinjewadi, a major employment centre with high traffic density. Additionally, special emphasis will be placed on religious and pilgrimage centres like Dehu and Alandi, the release stated.With CCTV cameras equipped with advanced AI-enabled video analytics, the system will support real-time crime detection, investigation, traffic enforcement, crowd monitoring, and emergency response. A modern integrated command and control centre will be established at the newly constructed CP’s office, with live feeds accessible to zonal DCPs, traffic DCP, and police stations.
