Pune: A 23-year-old scooter driver died after his vehicle was hit by a truck on Maan Road in Hinjewadi on Saturday evening. The Hinjewadi police on Sunday registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the truck driver as he was driving during the restricted hours.Senior police inspector Balaji Pandhare of the Hinjewadi police told TOI that the victim, Yash Ravindra Kumbhare, from Nagpur, was a software engineer, working with an IT company in Hinjewadi. “The accident happened around 6.30pm, when Kumbhare was driving his scooter along Maan Road,” Pandhare said. The officer said that Kumbhare sustained severe injuries in the accident. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. “The movement of heavy vehicles has been banned in the limits of Pimpri Chinchwad from 8am to 12pm and from 4pm to 9pm. The truck driver flouted the ban,” the officer said.He said that the police have arrested the driver, 46, of Ghatkopar, Mumbai, under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, he said.Following the series of fatal accidents caused by heavy vehicles in Hinjewadi and adjacent areas last year, the Pimpri Chinchwad police banned heavy vehicles from 8am to 12pm and from 4pm to 9pm. The traffic police also filed cases under Section 105 of the BNS against the heavy vehicle drivers involved in fatal incidents during restricted hours. “We constantly take action against the drivers of the heavy vehicles found driving in the restricted hours,” an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police said.
