‘Hope’: Teaser of Na Hong-Jin’s alien thriller unveiled after Cannes premiere

The teaser of Na Hong-Jin’s upcoming South Korean film, Hope was unveiled by the makers on May 18, 2026. The film, which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, is a strong contender for the top prize, Palme d’Or this year.

The teaser gives a brief glimpse into the dense world of the film which is set in a remote village in South Korea named Hope Harbour, where a mysterious creature has wreaked havoc. Two police officers are called in to investigate as a group of hunters in the forest set out to find the beast. The teaser is filled with eerie, terrifying visuals of the creature chasing the human characters and the film promises to be a thrilling adventure.

Hope stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Ho-yeon and Michael Fassbender in pivotal roles. Jeongin Hong serves as the executive producer and Eugene Kim is the co-executive producer on the film which is financed by Plus M Entertainment.

Neon has taken the North American and English-language rights of the film. It will be released in theatres this Fall.

Hope marks the fourth directorial venture of Hong-Jin after The Chaser (2008), The Yellow Sea (2010) and The Wailing (2016), all of which were shown at the Cannes Film Festival in different categories.
