Pune: Following repeated instances of flooding in Hinjewadi after heavy showers in June, PMRDA have lodged criminal complaints against landowners and people responsible for construction on the natural streams in the area. The Hinjewadi police registered four criminal cases after Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) officials submitted a report.“PMRDA officials conducted a study of the natural streams in the Hinjewadi, Sakhare Vasti and adjoining areas. They identified four nullahs that were either diverted or blocked illegally by landowners and other people to facilitate construction activities and had constructed commercial buildings either on or near these natural streams. These streams join the Mula River from the hilly areas, and they have a good water current after good rains,” senior inspector Balaji Pandhare of the Hinjewadi police told TOI.“PMRDA officials submitted their reports to us. Our probe is on,” he said.“We will check the legal documents of the structures and take further legal action against them,” he added.
