Palghar: A day after four employees of a pharma company were killed following a gas leak in the unit located at Boisar-Tarapur MIDC, police registered a case against the chairman and three others for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under the BNS.Palghar superintendent of police Yatish Deshmukh identified the accused as Medley Pharmaceuticals’ chairman Suhel Khatib, chief finance officer Devendra Bhagat, plant head Dharmesh Patel and maintenance engineer Shubham Thakur. Police said they are investigating if there was any error on part of the pharma company and what steps were taken for employee safety.The leak occurred in the nitrogen reaction tank on Thursday afternoon. While 36 staffers were on duty, six men working near the nitrogen tank were badly affected. They were rushed to the nearby private Shinde Hospital, but four workers — Kalpesh Raut (43), Bangali Thakur (46), Dhiraj Prajapati, and Kamlesh Yadav (both 31) — succumbed by evening.The condition of the other two workers — Rohan Shinde and Nilesh Hadal — is now stable, said sources, adding that the family of the six deceased workers will receive compensation.
