Pune: A loaded diesel tanker caught fire at a fuel station along the Talegon-Chakan road in Telegaon Dabhade on Wednesday evening.Gorakh Shinde, the tanker driver, suffered minor burns. Alert employees at the filling station immediately started to douse the flames. Fire tenders from Talegaon Municipal Council were pressed into action and the fire was brought under control within half-an-hour.An officer from the Talegaon Dabhade police said the fire broke out near a valve of the tanker, when the diesel was being transferred into an underground storage tank. The fire spread within seconds. The tanker’s lid blew off with a loud noise. “Shinde suffered minor burns while attempting to douse the fire,” the officer said.He said the police stopped vehicular movement on the Chakan-Shikrapur road to prevent any major accident because there were underground fuel storage tanks. The electricity supply was also snapped.
