8 booked for assault on two law students

Pune: The Airport police have booked eight men for allegedly assaulting two 20-year-old law college students with a baseball bat in the early hours of Friday at a residential society in Viman Nagar.The victims sustained head injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Yerawada. Senior inspector Govind Jadhav told TOI, “One of the injured students, a native of Jharkhand, lodged a complaint with us. We have registered a case of attempt to murder against eight men, and our teams are searching for the suspects.”According to the police, the assailants had followed the students from a club after a fight broke out over a trivial issue. “The assailants had followed a few students to the Viman Nagar society from a club in Kalyani Nagar after a fight broke out between the students and the suspects in the club over a trivial issue,” Jadhav said.The complainant, who resides in the society along with four other students, had gone to his college on Thursday night to prepare for the college’s musical fest and returned to the housing society around 2am on Friday. When he reached the parking area, he noticed a crowd. “As he approached, he saw seven to eight men assaulting his friends. The complainant tried to intervene, but the suspects allegedly assaulted him and his roommate with a baseball bat,” the police said.
