New Delhi: Around Rs 4.8 lakh was stolen after unidentified men allegedly broke open an ATM using a gas cutter in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar Phase-I on Saturday morning, police said.Police reached the spot and found the ATM machine damaged and partially burnt.Investigators suspect the accused used a gas cutter to slice through parts of the machine to access cash trays, which also caused burn damage inside the kiosk.A police officer said the incident took place around 4 am. “Preliminary investigation suggests that two men arrived at the ATM in a four-wheeler. At the time of the incident, no security guard was stationed outside the ATM,” the officer said.According to police, a patrol team was also moving in the area around the same time. The suspects allegedly hid when the patrol vehicle passed by and later resumed their attempt to break open the machine. “They can later be seen entering and leaving the ATM kiosk in CCTV footage from the area,” the officer added.Police said six chance fingerprints were lifted from the ATM kiosk and will be examined for clues.CCTV footage from the ATM booth and nearby areas is being analysed to identify the suspects and trace the vehicle used in the crime.A case has been registered at Ashok Vihar police station under sections of the BNS for theft and damage to property.
