New Delhi: A 20-year-old man was killed and two others injured in a hit-and-run incident after the scooty they were riding was allegedly hit by a truck on the ITO flyover in central Delhi on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Karan, a resident of Faridabad. The injured — Yash Kapoor (20) and Sandeep Bhatia (44) — are undergoing treatment at Lok Nayak Hospital. Police said they received information about the accident at IP Estate police station, following which the victims were shifted to the hospital. Doctors declared Karan brought dead, while the other two were found to have suffered injuries. During the investigation, police found that the three had left Faridabad and were heading towards Jama Masjid on a scooty. Yash Kapoor was riding the vehicle, with Karan seated between him and Sandeep Bhatia. The riders were not wearing helmets at the time, police said. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the scooty was hit from the side by an unknown truck, causing the riders to lose balance and fall on the road. The truck allegedly ran over Karan and sped away. A case has been registered under Sections 106 (death due to negligence), 281 (rash driving on a public way) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS. Police said the offending truck has been identified using CCTV footage and toll plaza records. Teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the driver. The scooty involved in the accident was seized and found to belong to the mother of injured rider, Yash Kapoor. Police said the post-mortem examination of Karan was conducted on March 12.
