New Delhi: Police have arrested three people, including a woman, in connection with a burglary at a senior citizen’s house in south Delhi’s Saket, nearly one-and-a-half months after gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 21 lakh was stolen.The accused have been identified as Shivam Sonkar (25) and Akash Sharma (32), both residents of Jahangirpuri. A 28-year-old woman, a relative of the two men, was also arrested for allegedly receiving and concealing the stolen property.The burglary took place on Oct 31 at the complainant’s residence in SFS Flats, Saket, while the senior citizen was away. “The accused broke open a window to gain entry and fled with gold and diamond jewellery, wristwatches, perfumes and other valuables,” DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said.Police said CCTV footage from the area showed a suspect loitering near the house. After analysing the footage, the suspect was identified as Shivam Sonkar and arrested on Dec 16. Based on his disclosure, his associate, Akash Sharma, was also nabbed.During interrogation, the accused revealed that the stolen jewellery had been hidden at a rented premises in Amritsar, Punjab. Acting on this information, a police team conducted raids at Mohini Park in Amritsar and recovered the stolen gold jewellery, a wristwatch and a designer perfume. A gold chain that had been mortgaged at a finance company’s Putlighar branch in Amritsar was also recovered.The woman accused was arrested for allegedly receiving and concealing the stolen jewellery, police said.Sonkar is a habitual offender and is allegedly involved in multiple burglary and theft cases across Delhi. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the accused’s involvement in other cases.
