Mumbai: Work Work on the new skywalk between Bandra East railway station and Kalanagar junction, near the Mhada office, is 90% complete, BMC officials said, adding that the project is on track for a December 31 completion.Chief engineer of bridges department Uttam Shrote said the 680m-long skywalk, with an average width of 6m, will have escalators at two points and staircases at three locations to improve access for commuters. The previous Bandra East skywalk — built in June 2008 and spanning 1.3km from Bandra station to Kalanagar — was dismantled in 2021 to clear the path for the 714m Kalanagar flyover arm connecting to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The flyover arm was designed to ease congestion and reduce long waiting times at Kalanagar signal for motorists headed toward BKC.The new skywalk is expected to restore a crucial pedestrian link in one of the suburb’s busiest transit hubs.
