Pune: The Bhosari police on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old daily wage worker on the charge of stabbing his friend to death over the suspicion of an illicit relationship with the accused’s aunt. The woman (22) also suffered injuries in an attempt to save the victim (21). While grappling for the knife with the woman, the accused suffered cuts on his hands, too. The incident occurred on Saturday morning inside a rented accommodation at Dhawade Vasti in Bhosari.“We arrested the accused before he could escape out of the state,” assistant police inspector Ketan Manjare of the Bhosari police told TOI. Manjare said the accused is the woman’s nephew by relation. Both hail from Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh and were having an affair. When the woman’s husband came to know about her relationship with the accused, she left her home and started living with her nephew.“Recently, the woman came into contact with the victim, who was a friend of the accused. Two days ago, the three of them came to Pune in search of a job and started staying in Dhawade Vasti,” Manjare said. He said the accused, an eatery worker, then found out that his aunt and friend may also be having an affair. On Friday night, he returned home with a knife from the kitchen of the eatery.“Early on Saturday morning, the accused had heated arguments with his friend. He stabbed the victim in the stomach and on the neck with the knife. When the woman tried to intervene, he attacked her, too,” he said. Manjare stated that the man fled after the incident. The police team reached the spot and found him nearby. They took him into custody before he could escape. “We have registered a case of murder and attempted murder against the accused,” Manjare said.
