Car fatally hits two-year-old boy in front of father outside playschool

Pune: A car driven by a resident of the 9 BRD Air Force Station (AFS) quarters in Lohegaon fatally hit a two-year-old boy outside a playschool when his father was about to pick him up on Thursday afternoon. The woman car driver’s child and the victim studied in the same playschool. She was going to the institution, near the quarters, to pick up her kid when the accident occurred. Police said the boy’s father worked with the logistics department at the 9 BRD AFS. Assistant inspector Sameer Karpe of the Airport police said the victim’s father dropped him and two other boys from their neighbourhood at the playschool at 9am on Thursday. He went back to the school in his car to pick them up around 12.30pm. “The boy’s father told us that he first picked up the two boys from his neighbourhood and made them sit in the car, while his son was waiting at the school’s gate. The accident occurred when he was going back to the school’s gate to pick him up,” Karpe said. The officer said the woman negotiated a turn to the playschool but failed to spot the boy and her car hit him. The boy came under the front right wheel of the car and suffered injuries on left hand, face and head. “The boy was initially taken to the AFS hospital and later shifted to the Command Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries,” the officer said.The police have registered a case against the woman under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, based on the complaint lodged by the boy’s father.
