Pune: A 20-year-old youth was arrested on the charge of murdering his friend after he made a fake call to the Pune city police control room on Saturday.Investigations revealed that Kishan Shahu, a resident of Handewadi, attacked Uma Shankar Yadav (27) with an iron rod in a tin shed near Sai Ganga Society in Handewadi at around 3.45 am on Saturday due to previous enmity.Shahu operates a small nursery business and his friend was a bed sheet seller from Bihar, who also lived in Handewadi. Senior inspector Mansing Patil said, “Shahu made a phone call to the control room around 3.45am stating that he was playing an online game on his mobile phone when he saw some assailants knocking on the tin shed door of Yadav’s house. Yadav did not open the door because he was sleeping. The assailants uprooted the door and attacked him with an iron rod to the head, leading to his death.“Patil added that a night patrol reached the location and initiated investigations. During questioning, discrepancies were found in the information provided by Shahu. Analysis of CCTV footage indicated that no such incident occurred, leading to Shahu’s custody on suspicion.The police officer said Shahu denied involvement in the crime, but after interrogation, he revealed details about murdering Yadav and making a false call to mislead the police.Shahu told the police that he attacked Yadav to death because Yadav had abused him in the past.
