Pune: A 22-year-old daily wage worker died after the mini truck he was travelling in turned on its side after hitting two cars in Pirangut ghat section on Sunday evening.The vehicle was carrying tiles. Sub-inspector Sarang Thakare of Bavdhan police told TOI that the victim, Sajan Kumar Purushottam, a resident of Ambegaon, died of grievous injuries. He hailed from Lakhimpur district in Uttar PradeshThakare said no one travelling in the two cars was injured, but their cars were badly damaged. “The mini truck driver fled from the spot. A case of causing death by negligence has been registered against him,” he said.Navnath Shinde (44), a farmer from Mulshi, whose car was damaged in the accident, lodged a complaint with the police.Thakare said that the accident happened around 4:15 pm on Sunday at a steep slope of Pirangut ghat section. The mini-truck carrying tiles was heading towards Pirangut from Ambegaon. The victim was sitting in the rear carriage of the vehicle, while another worker, Pavan Kumar (32), was sitting in the cabin with the driver. The complainant told police that the mini-truck first hit his car. He and his uncle, who were in the car, escaped unhurt. “The vehicle then hit another car and turned on its side,” Thakare said.The officer said that there were two persons travelling in another car. They also escaped unhurt, but both cars were badly damaged. “The complainant told us the mini-truck’s driver and another person came out of the cabin. When people started gathering at the spot, the driver fled from the spot. The victim was found lying near the mini-truck with severe injuries,” the officer said.Thakare said that Bavdhan police reached the accident spot and took the injured to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. “We have traced the owner of the mini truck. A search is on for the driver,” Thakare said.
