Woman riding pillion dies as truck hits scooter on no-entry road at Pune’s Gangadham Chowk | Pune News



Pune: A 29-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter died and her father-in-law was injured after a truck hit their two-wheeler at Gangadham Chowk on Gangadham-Shatrunjay road, a stretch banned for heavy vehicles, around 11.15am on Wednesday.Police identified the deceased as Deepali Soni, a resident of Gangadham Road, and the injured scooter rider as Jagdish Soni (61). Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil said: “The truck was coming from Market Yard. It should not have moved towards the Aai Mata temple as movement of heavy vehicles is banned on Gangadham-Shatrunjay road. We have registered a case against the truck driver, a resident of Bhavani Peth, and its owner under section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of BNS. We are awaiting reports of the driver’s medical examination.”Senior inspector Manisha Patil of Market Yard police said Deepali and her father-in-law had gone to a school for enquiry related to admission of her two children. “The accident occurred when they were returning. After the truck hit their scooter, Jagdish fell on the road and had a close shave. But Deepali came under the left tyre of the truck that was on its way towards Kondhwa after unloading goods at Market Yard.”The accident was captured on CCTV cameras. “We are questioning the truck driver about why he failed to spot the scooter,” Patil said.Exactly a year ago, a woman (59) was killed and her daughter-in-law (37) critically injured after a dumper truck had hit their scooter near Gangadham Chowk. Following the accident, the Pune city traffic police had banned movement of heavy vehicles on Gangadham-Aai Mata Mandir Road.
