Pune: A woman (43) from Yerawada lost Rs 26.5 lakh in a matrimonial fraud between June and Sept last year.She filed an online complaint and after preliminary investigations, a case was registered at the Yerawada police on Saturday.
An officer from the Yerawada police said the woman registered her name with a matrimonial website. In June last year, the accused contacted her and shared his bio-data. A few days later, he proposed the woman for marriage.“After the woman accepted, they started chatting regularly. The man told the woman that they needed financial security for themselves and their child after the marriage,” the officer said.He said the accused also told the woman that they would invest in a land parcel at Panvel in Raigad district. He had informed her about two people, allegedly his relatives, and assured that they would take care of their land.“The man then started taking money from the woman under the pretext of investments. The woman transferred Rs 26.5 lakh between June and Sept to different bank accounts and UPI IDs and lost it,” he said.The officer said the accused later stopped responding to the woman’s calls and duped her. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
