Pune: A 73-year-old morning walker died after she was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle on Pashan Road around 6am on Saturday. Police identified the woman as Asha Patil, a resident of Abhimanshree Society. Her son Atul (52), who works in a prominent company in Mumbai, lodged a complaint with the Chatushrungi police station later in the day.Senior inspector Uttam Bhajnawale of the Chatushrungi police told TOI, “Asha Patil, a homemaker, was a regular morning walker. She used to walk a few kilometres routinely. She left home around 5.30am on Saturday.”Some motorists who found her lying on the road informed police, who then took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.“Our team is studying the CCTV camera footage of the spot, and it shows that Patil was walking towards Pashan from Abhimanshree Society’s chowk. The footage shows tempo was passing the site at the time of the accident. It was hazy at that time. We are trying to ascertain the registration number of the tempo,” Bhajnawale said.“We suspect that after hitting Patil, the tempo driver sped away,” he added. “We suspect Patil was trying to cross the road to walk towards Panchvati when the tempo hit her. She was alone.” Police have registered a case against unidentified motorists for rash and negligent driving and causing death.
