Michael B. Jordan celebrated a landmark weekend, even if his football club couldn’t quite follow suit on the pitch.
The Hollywood star and co-owner of AFC Bournemouth won the Academy Award for Best Actor on Sunday for his performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in the vampire drama Sinners.
The victory, announced at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles, also created a unique slice of Premier League history — making Jordan the first owner of a Premier League club to win an Oscar.
The award came just hours after Bournemouth were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.
Hollywood Success Meets Premier League
Jordan, 39, has been part of the ownership group running Bournemouth since December 2022, when financier Bill Foley and his Black Knight Football Club consortium completed their takeover of the club.
Although primarily known for his acting career, Jordan has played an active role within the ownership setup since joining the group.
His Oscar-winning role in Sinners added another layer of history to the night. The performance saw him portray identical twin characters, making him one of the rare actors to win the award while playing dual roles.
Paying Tribute
During his acceptance speech, Jordan honoured a line of iconic Black Oscar winners, including Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Will Smith.

“I stand here because of the people that came before me,” he said.
“Thank you for supporting me over my career. I know you want me to do well, and I’m going to keep stepping up and being the best version of myself that I can be.”
