'Was against her going out for parties': Man kills wife in Delhi’s Jafrabad over suspected affair; accused held

NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old woman was murdered by her husband in north-east Delhi’s Jafrabad on Sunday, police said, after she was found unconscious inside her boutique in the early hours of the morning. Police said the man murdered his wife because he allegedly suspected her of having an extramarital affair and did not approve of her lifestyle.According to police, a PCR call was received at 2.06am reporting that a woman was lying in an “unconscious state” inside a shop in the Maujpur area. A team from Jafrabad police station reached the spot and found the woman, aged around 36, lying on the floor of her boutique, with the shutter partially closed. She was rushed to JPC Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

A forensic team examined the shop and collected evidence, while the body was sent for post-mortem. During the initial inspection, investigators noticed that the woman’s mobile phone was missing, prompting suspicion of foul play.A police team began questioning family members and those known to the woman. Police said the primary suspicion soon fell on her husband, identified as Satish, 55, a resident of Maujpur. During sustained interrogation, he allegedly confessed to strangling his wife following an argument, claiming a “misunderstanding” escalated between them. “He suspected her of having an extramarital affair and confronted her about it. He also objected to her habit of going out for dinners and parties, and the tension between them escalated,” a senior police officer said. The missing mobile phone was also recovered at his instance, police said.A case under Sections 103 (murder) and 305 (Theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship, etc) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Jafrabad police station. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events leading up to the murder and whether there were prior complaints or domestic disputes between the couple.
