Pune: Vijay Diwas was commemorated with customary military solemnity at the Southern Command war memorial on Monday.The day, celebrated on Dec 16, marked 54 years of India’s decisive victory in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, Southern Army commander, led the observance in the presence of serving personnel and veterans of the Army, Navy and Air Force.A wreath-laying ceremony honoured the fallen heroes, followed by a solemn silence. Veterans of the 1971 War and Veer Naris were felicitated, reaffirming the armed forces’ enduring respect for courage, sacrifice, and service to the nation, said the command officials.
