Uttam Nagar murder case: Accused’s mother moves Delhi high court fearing house demolition

NEW DELHI: The mother of an accused in the Uttam Nagar murder case has approached the Delhi High Court, fearing her house might be demolished like that of a co-accused.The matter was mentioned before the bench led by the Chief Justice, which was informed that a co-accused’s house has already been demolished. The petitioner said there is a strong apprehension that their house may also be demolished.

Taking note of the submissions, the court allowed the mentioning and indicated that the matter is likely to be heard later today after lunch.This comes against the backdrop of a demolition drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with the Holi clash in Uttam Nagar, which left 26-year-old Tarun Kumar dead.Four days after the incident on 4 March, portions of a house linked to the main accused were demolished by civic authorities. Police sources said the “encroached” parts of a three-storey house and some other allegedly illegal structures were razed. Officials added that the house belonged to Umardeen (49) and his son Muzaffar (25), both accused in the case.The plea seeks protection against any similar action against the petitioner’s house. The court is expected to hear the matter later in the day.Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Tuesday reported the arrest of seven more people and the apprehension of one minor, who were wanted co-accused in the case.The clash reportedly began over a balloon during Holi on 4 March, which escalated into a violent altercation.
