Pune: The Vishrambaug police on Monday detained two minors (16), both from Bhawani Peth, on the charge of robbing gold jewellery worth Rs 42,000 after threatening a retired professor (61) in Sadashiv Peth with a sharp weapon around 9.45am on Saturday.The retired professor approached the police with his complaint immediately after the incident. The police recovered the billhook, the robbed jewellery and the scooter used in the crime.
Inspector Arun Ghodke, sub-inspector Rajesh Usgaonkar and constable Arjun Thorat reached the spot and analysed the footage of over 200 CCTV cameras. Acting on the clues, the police team reached Bhawani Peth and nabbed the duo.Ghodke said, “The retired professor, a resident of Sadashiv Peth, was walking towards city’s Omkareshwar temple to attend the 10th day ritual of his deceased relative. The accused, on a scooter, stopped near the victim. They threatened him by showing a sharp weapon at the waist of one of them.”“They asked him to hand over his gold finger ring and chain to them. The victim did not resist and handed over the jewellery. If he resisted them, they might have assaulted him,” Ghodke said.“The boys are school dropouts and their parents are casual workers and maidservants,” Ghodke said.
