It was truly a celebration of two cultures, their heritage, and their folklore when the Embassy of Belgium marked King’s Day in the city. With Giants from Belgium, the Royal Stilt Walkers of Merchtem, and folk dances showcasing India’s diversity against the backdrop of the magnificent Belgian Residence designed by Satish Gujral, attendees were transported to the lively parades of Belgian streets.

A CELEBRATION OF INDIAN AND BELGIAN HERITAGE“Today’s King’s Day is a day to celebrate King Philippe – our sovereign – who ascended to the throne in 2013. It is our pleasure to give you the royal treatment today as we look back at an exceptional year in the Belgian-Indian relationship. We have chosen the theme ‘A celebration of Indian and Belgian heritage.’ Belgium and India share many similarities – Indian rangoli and flower carpets; we have Giants, you have giants... The closest symbol of Belgian and Indian heritage is behind you. The magnificent Residence was commissioned by the Belgian State in 1980 and designed by Indian patron and sculptor Satish Gujral,” said Belgian Ambassador Didier Vanderhasselt.
