New Delhi: A Delhi court has reserved its order on bail pleas for 12 people accused in the stone-pelting incident during the demolition exercise near the Faiz-e-Elahi mosque in Turkman Gate last month. Additional Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh heard final arguments on Thursday and reserved the order for Feb 16.
The counsel for Adnan, Mohammad Aadil and Amir Hamza argued their clients are local residents who happened to be there, not outsiders joining the unrest. They noted these “instigating messages” which were not in the initial FIR, were found on one accused’s phone. They argued he only forwarded them, not created them. Atul Shrivastava countered that police were following MCD and Delhi High Court orders for the demolition, which residents knew about. “Refusing to leave after the order would mean you joined the unrest,” he said.
