Truck runs over 2 ITI students after bike skids

Pune: Two ITI students died after a pickup truck knocked them down when their motorcycle skidded on a sharp turn at the Kamshet Ghat on the Pune-Mumbai highway on Wednesday evening.Rishabh Hiwale (23), a friend of the deceased, of Wadgaon Maval lodged a complaint with the Kamshet police. The police have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the truck driver, who hails from Dighi, under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The accident occurred when the victims, 19-year-old Akash Chaudhari of Shivane near Warje and Prajwal Saraf (23) of Hadapsar, along with their four friends, were on their way to Lonavla for a bike ride.Sub-inspector Dattatreya Shedge of the Kamshet police said the six friends met in Balewadi on Tuesday afternoon. They all decided to go for a drive to Lonavla on their motorcycles. “They headed for Lonavla on three diffeent motorcycles. It was raining when they reached Kamshet around 5pm,” he said. “On a sharp turn in the ghat section, the duo’s motorcycle skidded. It hit the divider, and both of them fell on the Pune-bound lane of the highway,” he said, adding that “They were not wearing helmets.”He said the visibility in the ghat section was low because of rain and fog. The driver of a pickup truck, heading towards Pune, ran over the duo, severely injuring them. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
