Truck driver killed, two hurt in crash

New Delhi: A truck driver died and a couple on a motorcycle were injured after the driver allegedly hit their motorcycle and then crashed the truck into a divider while trying to flee in southeast Delhi’s Okhla Phase-I on Sunday, causing the vehicle to overturn.Police said the accident happened around 1am on the intervening night of March 14 and 15. As police team reached the spot, they found a truck bearing a Haryana registration number plate mounted on a road divider and overturned, with an unconscious man lying nearby.The injured man was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him dead. He was identified as Lokendra (32), a resident of village Jakhera in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh.Before the fatal accident, the truck allegedly hit a motorcycle near a petrol pump under Sarita Vihar police station area. The motorcycle had two occupants — the rider, a man and a pillion passenger, his wife— both of whom sustained injuries in the collision.The injured motorcyclists were shifted to a hospital and are currently stated to be stable, police said.Cops said that after the initial collision, the truck driver attempted to flee the spot while driving in a rash and negligent manner. When he reached Okhla underpass red light, the vehicle hit the divider, climbed onto it and overturned. TNN
