Trio hack credit cards for online shopping in Pune, held | Pune News



Pune: Three people have been arrested for hacking several credit cards and using the details to buy cellphones and other items from different e-commerce websites.Wagholi police arrested Aslam Mofid Khan (22) of Kaimur in Bihar and Adib Rizwan Khan (21) and Farhan Ibrahim Unwala (25) of Surat in Gujarat. As many as 45 expensive cellphones worth Rs12 lakh were recovered from them.A police team headed by deputy commissioner of police (zone IV) Somay Munde and comprising senior inspector Yuvraj Hande and inspector Asaram Shete arrested them between Sept 8 and 9.Hande told TOI: “We were probing a case of cheating wherein an Indian Army soldier, Karimul Khussamud Ali Islam (32) of Wagholi, claimed that online fraudsters had hacked his credit card and bought a mobile phone worth Rs1.1 lakh from an e-commerce website.”Islam told the police that an unknown person had sent him a message embedded with a remote access software link. The link opened in the form of a form and prompted him to fill in the details of his credit card. “Once he filled the details, the card stopped functioning. Later, he received a message that a cellphone worth Rs1.1 lakh had been ordered using his credit card,” Hande said.The police team found that the cellphone had been delivered to a pharmacy shop on Wagholi-Kesnand Road. They studied CCTV camera footage of the spot and saw an e-commerce agent handing over the phone. They tracked down the godown of the e-commerce agency and took details of the delivery address and a photograph of the person who had accepted the parcel.“We looked around in Kesnand, Bakori, Kharadi, Chandannagar and other areas for the person, identified as Khan, who had taken the delivery near the pharmacy store. On Sept 8, we raided Khan’s flat and arrested him and Adib. The next day, we arrested Unwala,” Hande added.Police said the suspects would send messages randomly to people with a link to an .apk file. It prompted victims to fill in credit card details, which the trio misused.
