Trader duped of 19.5L in online oil deal scam | Pune News

Pune: A 54-year-old import-export trader from Gahunje lodged a complaint with the Shirgaon police on Sunday stating that cybercrooks duped him of Rs19.40 lakh by promising handsome commission on ‘routing’ natural oil products through them to a ‘company in Sweden’. The victim told police in his complaint that the fraudsters, who claimed to be based somewhere in Europe, sent an email to him on May 2 offering the commission deal, claiming that natural oil products from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were in high demand in Europe. They claimed that they have bagged an order from a Swedish company to supply oil and that the victim can earn handsome commission on routing the oil products through their company, the complainant told police. The trader fell for the commission lure and transferred money to five accounts to seal the deal. However, after waiting for 23 days, the fraudsters continued to demand more money, citing different fees and agreement charges. The victim ran an online search for the company in Sweden and realised that no such firm required natural oil products. He then realised that he had been cheated and approached the police.
