Three vandalise store, demand Rs50k extortion in Kondhwa; booked

Pune: Three men, armed with sharp weapons, vandalised a garment store in Ashraf Nagar on Friday and threatened its owner to pay them Rs50,000.The store owner (25) switched off his phone after the trio asked him to visit a nearby chowk the same night and hand over the money. The three accused then left the spot.He did not comply with the accused and got in touch with his brother instead. The brothers on Saturday morning approached the Kondhwa police to lodge a complaint.The police have registered a case of attempted extortion, assault, and mischief to property and under the Arms Act.Senior inspector Vinay Patankar of Kondhwa police told TOI, “The three accused barged into the shop and started threatening the owner with dire consequences. They used their weapons to damage CCTV cameras, DVR and other articles and slapped the store owner while demanding Rs50,000. They threatened to eliminate him if the money was not paid to them.”“We suspect that there could be more people involved in the extortion. There is a possibility that some of the accomplices of the trio stood outside the store and did not allow anyone to enter the store when the trio was threatening and demanding money,” he said.
