Pune: Three people collectively lost Rs 88.2 lakh in online share-trading frauds between Nov last year and this March.Separate complaints have been registered with the Lohegaon police and Baramati Rural police.A cooperative sugar factory officer (57) from Baramati taluka and his friend together lost Rs 68.2 lakh to cybercrooks between Feb and March.The victim, in his complaint with the Baramati rural police, stated that in Feb, he received a message from an unknown person, who then connected him to another person. The other person provided him with information regarding stock-trading.The crook also shared a link with the complainant and instructed him to open a trading account. “The complainant invested some money and earned a profit of Rs 5,000, which was transferred to his bank account,” an officer from the Baramati Rural police said.He said the complainant then shared the details with his friend and told him to join the group to earn good money. They both transferred Rs 68.2 lakh between Feb and March to the different bank accounts.“When the duo did not get profit in their bank accounts, they started pursuing the crooks. The crooks told them to pay Rs 26 lakh within three days to get the money. The duo realised that they were being duped and approached the police,” he said.“We have sought the details of the bank transactions from their banks,” the officer said.Similarly, in another cyber share-trading fraud, a woman (57) from Lohegaon lost Rs 20 lakh to cybercrooks between Nov last year and Feb. The crooks assured the woman good returns on her investments.They made her download an app named after a prominent private securities firm. The crooks gained her confidence by sharing a profit of Rs 10,900 with her. Later, they took money from her to the different bank accounts. The woman realised that she was being duped when she was not able to withdraw her money. The woman filed an online complaint. After preliminary investigations, a case was registered with the Lohegaon police on Thursday.
