Mumbai: An FIR was registered on June 20 against four persons after three of them posed as CBI officers and threatened a developer at his Borivli East residence. The Kasturba Marg police are probing further. The 51-year-old complainant owns a construction company and is a developer in the Vasai-Virar belt. In Sept last year, the developer was at home with his family when two unknown men arrived at 8.20 am. They claimed to be CBI officers from New Delhi and asked him to accompany them downstairs for inquiry. The developer refused to do so. The developer’s brother asked the duo to show their identity cards at which they flashed cards worn around their neck. But the developer and his brother could not get a clear look at what was written on the cards. The duo informed the developer that a Vasai resident had lodged a complaint against him. When he asked to see a copy of the complaint, they produced a document. The developer read it and said he was not acquainted with the man accusing him. Thereafter, the duo made some phone calls. Two others arrived, of which one claimed to be a CBI officer and the other claimed to be the man who had accused the developer. The developer recollected having seen this man inside the Vasai-Virar municipal corporation a couple of times. The ‘CBI officials’ then began insisting that the developer settle the matter with his accuser, else an FIR would be lodged against him, he would be dragged out of his apartment and arrested. They started to yell when he refused to settle the matter. After his family heard the commotion and came to the door, the men threatened him with dire consequences and left. The incident had been captured on CCTVs at the developer’s residence. He sent a complaint to the CBI’s Mumbai office. They responded that none of their employees had visited him. He was asked to report the crime at a local police station.
