Thieves try to loot police station gear under cops' noses in Delhi

NEW DELHI: They might have picked an easier job. But a pair of thieves decided to try their luck at Pandav Nagar Police station, no less, where they were caught red-handed, or battery-handed in this case, reports Abhay. On Feb 11, around 4.30pm, two “repairmen” turned up at the east Delhi police station and began tinkering with door frame metal detector (DFMD) equipment stored at the back.

A woman constable, the station sentry, noticed them and alerted the head constable. They proceeded to the back and found the DFMD devices laid out on the ground, opened, and in the process of being dismantled. Batteries were missing from the units. Their game up, the duo made a dash for the station’s back gate. It was just adesperate run, though. The duty officer and other police personnel soon got to the chase, and with the sentry, caught both. Both were frisked and cops found stolen DFMD batteries concealed under their shirts. Both were arrested.A case was registered under Sections 303(2) (theft), 317(2) (stolen property), and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS. The police initiated an investigation to determine whether the men were acting independently or as part of a larger gang.In 2024, thieves stole vehicle parts from 2-wheelers parked in the malkhana of Bhalswa Dairy Police Station.
