Maggie Gyllenhaal has unveiled the first look at her second feature film, The Bride!, with a teaser trailer that reimagines Mary Shelley’s gothic classic through the lens of a 1930s outlaw love story.

The film stars Christian Bale as a lonely Frankenstein in Depression-era Chicago, who enlists Dr. Euphronios to bring him a companion. Their experiment revives a murdered young woman, played by Jessie Buckley, who emerges as the fiery, platinum-haired bride.

The trailer hints at a punk-rock energy and a tragic love story with echoes of Bonnie and Clyde and David Lynch’s Wild at Heart. Buckley’s bride partners with Bale’s creature in a bloody rebellion against a world that rejects them.

The Bride! boasts an ensemble cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. Gyllenhaal wrote and directed the film, and also produced alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Warner Bros. will release the film in theaters and on IMAX screens in North America on March 6, 2026, following an international rollout beginning March 4.

Originally developed as a Netflix project, the production ultimately moved to Warner Bros., positioning it as a major theatrical event. The film’s release will arrive just months after Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation, which hits theaters in October 2025 before streaming on Netflix.

The Bride! follows Gyllenhaal’s acclaimed directorial debut The Lost Daughter
