Tejwani remanded in judicial custody in Mundhwa land deal

Pune: A magisterial court on Monday ordered power of attorney (PoA)-holder Sheetal Tejwani’s remand in judicial custody for 14 days after Pune police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) recommendation following her custodial interrogation between Dec 4 and 15 in the alleged illegal sale of a 40-acre govt land in Mundhwa. The case, arising from two illegal orders passed by suspended Pune city tehsildar Suryakant Yeole granting ownership rights of govt lands in Mundhwa and Bopodi to private parties, is registered with the Khadak police station.Tejwani was later sent to the Yerawada central prison. The Bavdhan police, which falls under the Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate, will move a plea before a court in Paud on Tuesday to seek her custodial remand in connection with the stamp duty waiver case. The same is linked to the May 20 registration of the Mundhwa land sale deed between Tejwani and Amadea Enterprises LLP, in which deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s son Parth is one of the two partners. It is the govt’s case that the registration resulted in Rs 6 crore revenue loss to the exchequer. Parth has not been named in either of the FIRs registered by the Khadak and the Bavdhan police but Amadea’s other partner, Digvijay Patil, who is a signatory to the sale deed has been named, along with Tejwani, in both the FIRs.Pimpri Chinchwad’s deputy commissioner of police Vishal Gaikwad told TOI, “We will seek Tejwani’s custody from the court on Tuesday. The Bavdhan police today (Monday) recorded Digvijay Patil’s statement.” Earlier, Pune police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW)’s assistant commissioner Dattatraya Waghmare and his team produced Tejwani before the magisterial court and submitted a remand report through public prosecutor Amit Yadav. Among other things, the report stated that Tejwani was interrogated in detail about the involvement of other people in the alleged crime and also how the Rs 300 crore declared consideration for the Mundhwa land parcel was exchanged. However, Tejwani has not given any information in this regard to the interrogators, the report stated. The police also searched her residential addresses in Koregaon Park and in Pimpri in the presence of independent panch witnesses but did not find any documents related to the land deal. In custody, Tejwani initially did not cooperate on the issue of handing over the original PoA she got executed in her name by the heirs of the watandars (original holders of the Mahar Watan land at Mundhwa, subsequently taken over by govt and extended on lease to Botanical Survey of India till 2038) and original copy of the sale deed. However, after sustained interrogation, she got her lawyer to hand over these original documents to the police, the report stated.
