Mumbai: A traffic constable attached to Bhoiwada traffic division was allegedly assaulted by a biker during routine duty at Bharatmata Junction, Parel, on Thursday afternoon.According to police, constable Jitendra Khambhal, was regulating traffic near Suparibaug to Bharatmata between 7 am and 3 pm. Around 1 pm, he stopped a Pune registered scooty after suspecting a violation. The rider, later identified as Aditya Jai Vaghela (19), a Worli resident, produced only a learner’s license. His pillion passenger had no driving documents.When asked for vehicle and PUC papers, Vaghela allegedly refused to cooperate and tried to ride away. Constable Khambhal sat pillion to escort the vehicle to Bhoiwada traffic post, but the rider diverted towards ITC Hotel at high speed, joking he would give the constable a “mumbai darshan.”The rider was stopped with the help of other traffic policemen. However, when the vehicle was taken to the Bhoiwada traffic police chowk, Vaghela allegedly abused Khambhal and punched him multiple times on the cheek.The injured constable was sent to KEM Hospital for medical examination, while Bhoiwada police detained the accused. An FIR has been registered against Vaghela for assault, obstructing a public servant, and other IPC sections.
