Pune: State govt has maintained silence on the status of the Kharge-led committee probing alleged irregularities in the Mundhwa land purchase linked to deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s son Parth, even after the panel’s one-month extended tenure ended on Tuesday.Text messages sent by TOI to additional chief secretary (revenue) and committee head Vikas Kharge seeking clarity on the report’s status went unanswered till going to press. Senior revenue officials, however, said govt neither issued fresh instructions granting another extension nor indicated whether the committee’s report was ready. The extension, approved on Dec 3 last year, lapsed on Jan 6 after the panel sought additional time beyond its original deadline of Dec 6, 2025.The five-member committee was constituted by revenue minister Chandrakant Bawankule. Opposition politicians said the delay was anticipated. A senior Congress member said it was surprising that there was “no discussion or clarity” on the report’s status even after the extension period had lapsed.Social activist Vijay Kumbhar, who has been pursuing the case, said the extension and lack of updates only reinforced his concerns. “From the day this committee was formed, I said it would deliver nothing. It was created to mislead the public,” he said.Kumbhar had earlier written to CM Devendra Fadnavis and the chief secretary, alleging a “massive and planned misappropriation” of govt land in Mundhwa. In his complaint, Kumbhar has sought cancellation of all related transactions, registration of criminal cases and the scrapping of the present inquiry committee, citing an alleged conflict of interest.
