Stamping its style: Delhi's logo to be unveiled at Red Fort today
Delhi is set to unveil its first official logo on November 1, marking Delhi Day. This visual identity, chosen from over 1,800 entries, aims to represent the capital’s blend of heritage and modernity. The emblem will unify government communications and boost public recognition of initiatives, strengthening Delhi’s brand nationally and internationally.

NEW DELHI: For the first time in its history, the NCT of Delhi is set to get an official logo, a visual identity designed to represent the city’s unique blend of heritage and modernity. The new emblem will be unveiled at Red Fort on Nov 1, celebrated as Delhi Day or Foundation Day, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s administrative and cultural evolution.According to officials, more than 1,800 entries were received through a nationwide design competition hosted on the MyGov platform earlier this year. The designs were reviewed by a selection panel and later shortlisted for final approval by chief minister Rekha Gupta. The winning design, officials said, captures Delhi’s “soulful coexistence of history and innovation”.While most Indian states have long had official emblems reflecting their identity — from Bihar’s Bodhi tree to Uttarakhand’s Himalayan peaks — Delhi has never possessed a unifying visual symbol. The new logo will serve as the national capital’s first formal insignia, to be used across all official govt communications, policy documents and welfare programmes, officials said.“The logo is much more than a design; it’s a statement of who we are – a capital city that honours its heritage while embracing progress, transparency and people-centric governance,” said a senior Delhi govt official involved in the project.Sources said the logo’s concept incorporates iconic structures, possibly elements from Delhi’s historical architecture, alongside contemporary landmarks built in recent times by govt. Themes of unity, vibrancy, progress and clean governance underpin the final concept, representing Delhi’s aspirations as a forward-looking global capital, they said.A govt official said the logo is intended not just as an aesthetic mark, but as a state symbol of authority and trust. It will appear on official seals and tourism campaigns, giving Delhi a distinct visual brand on national and international platforms, he added.Delhi’s move follows a pattern seen in several Indian states. Chhattisgarh’s emblem, introduced in 2001, uses 36 fort symbols to represent its name’s origin (“36-garh”). Telangana’s logo highlights its historical monuments while Jharkhand’s emblem, adopted in 2020, blends nature, tribal dance and cultural motifs. By comparison, Delhi’s logo is expected to convey a metropolitan yet deeply-rooted identity.Officials said Delhi’s first logo will help streamline govt branding and improve public recognition of official initiatives, reducing confusion across departments. A consistent visual symbol will make citizen-facing services and digital platforms easier to identify, promoting accountability and accessibility.For tourism, the logo will create a cohesive brand to tie monuments, events and campaigns under one recognisable identity. It will strengthen Delhi’s positioning in national and international collaborations, signalling a confident, modern capital, said the official.Meanwhile, there are plans to mark the foundation day of nine other states – Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Kerala, TN, Haryana and MP – and four Union Territories – Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands – at the Red Fort event.Apart from a light-and-sound show and projection mapping on the fort’s facade depicting Delhi’s transformation through the ages, the celebration will showcase India’s rich cultural diversity with performances and a food festival.
