NEW DELHI: To ensure there is no shortage of ammunition in case of any emergency during the duration of the AI summit, security agencies are reported to have set up “special armouries” at select hotels in the city.These strategically placed stockpiles will allow commandos to maintain an uninterrupted supply of bullets and other essential equipment during operations, sources said.
The armouries, the idea for which had first been proposed during a security preparedness meeting, are also stocked with loaded magazines, backup weapons, medical supplies, stun and smoke grenades and wireless set chargers. During the meeting, it was decided that a robust supply chain would be maintained to support commandos in real time. If an attack were to occur, the supply team would move alongside the main operational team with all necessary material. This will eliminate the need for the commandos to return to their base for additional supplies, ensuring the operation could be executed smoothly and without interruption.Police will use gesture recognition cameras and intrusion alert systems at the venue at Bharat Mandapam and at hotels where delegates are staying.Key routes, the hotels and the venue will be secured by 20,000 personnel, including those from CAPF, Delhi Police and traffic police. To enhance surveillance, snipers from NSG personnel will be stationed in buildings along the routes connecting IGI Airport, the hotels accommodating the dignitaries and the venue.Metro stations along the Bharat Mandapam route will have heightened security, with cops proficient in English deployed to assist dignitaries who choose to commute by the metro. A pilot team will be available to accompany the spouses of visiting dignitaries if they wish to visit marketplaces or other areas outside the venue of the summit.Quick response teams have been deployed at IGI Airport to handle any emergency.
