Mumbai: A smart solar-powered bench has been installed at St. Xavier’s College. Placed at the entrance of the Xavier Institute of Communication, the bench comes equipped with an inbuilt Wi-Fi router capable of connecting up to 100 phones or laptops for internet access. It also offers wireless charging, USB plugs, and other features.The smart bench has an algorithm which stores extra battery on sunny days saving it for days with an overcast.Developed in collaboration between a Bengaluru-based company and a Hungarian firm, the installation is part of a broader plan to set up 100 such benches across Mumbai. The next locations include Shivaji Park, the coastal road promenade, and several other colleges, said Rahul Shewale the MP of Mumbai south central.
