NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old woman was found murdered in a hotel room in Central Delhi’s Paharganj on Sunday. Police detained a suspect who checked into the hotel with the victim the previous day.A PCR call was received around 9.47 am on Sunday, reporting the discovery of a woman’s body inside a hotel room. A team from the local Nabi Karim police station immediately reached the scene and initiated an inquiry.Upon arrival, the hotel staff informed officers that a couple checked into the room on Saturday around 4.15 pm. However, on Sunday morning, the man was found missing, and the woman was later discovered lying unresponsive in the bathroom.“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the man was last seen leaving the hotel premises alone in the morning. Later that evening, the hotel staff entered the room and found the woman lying motionless in the bathroom, following which the police were informed,” a senior officer stated.Initial findings suggest that the woman was strangled using a drawstring. Further investigation revealed that the couple ordered pizza and lassi around 6 pm on Saturday, which was delivered to their room by hotel staff.Identification documents submitted at the time of check-in indicated that both individuals were residents of North Delhi. However, police are verifying the authenticity of the IDs.A forensic crime team was called to the hotel to conduct a detailed examination of the room. Photographs were taken, and various items were collected from the scene for forensic analysis. The woman’s body was taken into custody and transported to a nearby mortuary, where it was preserved for postmortem to determine the exact cause and time of death.Based on the evidence collected so far, a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Nabi Karim police station. The investigation is currently underway, with cops questioning the detained suspect to uncover the motive behind the killing.
